Don,

As always you're a fountain of knowledge and help. Thanks mate.

I'll have to settle for barlowing (2.5x) my 13T6 or 9T6 :waytogo: .  No short focal length Ethoi here....

Hmmm....

No, no, no! Don't even think about it!

Think about it.  The three shortest focal length Ethos are the only ones I have, except for the 21E.

I don't doubt you get mind blowing views out of them.  Not for a moment!

My viewing interests/habits at this point focus heavily on sweeping through fields of DSO's such as Galaxy clusters or the Globs in the Sagitarius/Ophiucus region.  My favourite way of doing that is to maximise TFoV without overly sacrificing magnification.  That ultimately led to a 21E. And indeed I go whole sessions (particularly with the pusher dob) where no other EP makes into the focuser.  Hence it earns it's keep.

Combine that with the fact that T6s and Delos are hardly slouches (plus I'm cool with Barlow) and it is really hard to justify.

There is another point, I'm still a newb.  I don't know if my observing is even refined enough to fully appreciate the short end of the EP spectrum.  I'm comfortable that for my interests, the 20mm bracket is the sweet spot and that within this group the  21E is probably the best.  But I got to that conclusion by chasing galaxies fields for 2 years/ looking through every EP I could lay my hands on/ making mistakes.

I have to admit I don't see the point of a 5mm Ethos when there is a 6 and a 4.7.  I've read the whole thread, and I'm not saying the OP's concern is not justified, but I just can't appreciate it at this point.

I agree.  The 4.7 Ethos 110 degree is a great eyepiece.  I wouldn't want it in the 100 degree version ... with a retention screw?  No way.  I have a 6 Ethos and wish it were in the newer 110 degree format.

Titania--m.13.0

Oberon--m.13.2

Ariel--m.13.2

Umbriel--m.14.0

Miranda--m.15.3

All within reach of your scope at high power in good seeing.

Perhaps this is inappropriate for an EP thread but I gave the moons of Uranus a go.  I was in my backyard, maxed magnification at 275x. I'm not sure if I did see Oberon or not.  I definitely saw a body to the north west I think and maybe one more inside of that running towards the planet.  But I can't be sure. The definite sighting may have been a 13 magnitude back ground star.

diesnt matter, first go.  I ll get there.  Thanks again Don.

id better get some shut eye

My main issue with the 110° Ethos is with their height, weight, shape, center of gravity. Funky adapter, under cut on both the 1.25" barrel and 2".

Other than that I am sure they perform. Just wish they were as ergonomic as the 6 and 8. Think they would sell more.

Fair enough.  I know some folks on here and Ice In Space don't like the Delos line on ergonomic grounds, yet it's precisely the ergonomics that makes them my favourite.

Infinite diversity in infinite combinations.   :)

It's almost new moon and the clouds have rolled in.  It is meant to rain on the weekend.  Now where is the justice in that?!

I'm begining to think lenses and mirrors are made from clouds, and they outgas a lot...a whole lot...

You're on to something there.  Even if we can't demonstrate causality, there is very strong correlation.
