Oh to have a shop like yours in my town :)

I've done my share of buying from the internet, but nothing beats a full featured brick-and-mortar astronomy-gear shop!!

Having visited the showroom twice now I must ask: where was the music when I was there? And the disco ball?

Carol is right . . . you can get lost in their for hours. And the eyepiece shelves are still under construction!

Looks like the deck of a cruise ship during an eclipse. Really impressive collection and display.

No disco ball yet. We're thinking about it -- maybe two or three all going at once.

There is b.g. music if we remember to turn it on and turn it up. The music varies, depending on Michael's mood. Sometimes Delius or Howard Hanson, sometimes Brubeck or Oscar Peterson.

But we made a deal: he won't turn on The Flaming Lips channel if I won't turn on the Bjoerling, Gigli, and Pavarotti channels. I'm not sure who got the best of the deal -- Michael, me, or the customers.

Now you need to program the goto's to move in synch to the music! :)

The Blue Danube. It's the only choice.

Even that might get a bit tedious for those who are there all day, though. :p

most of the optics that I have gotten over the past 16 years have been sight unseen-by phone, internet, hopeful thinking
it will be nice to see the stuff in person, to compare, before buying

A quick business decision needs to be made to move the store closer to where I live. This per the following article in USA Today:

"Columbus in plum location, study says
City within 500 miles of 48% of U.S. population"

Yea, it's kinda like when you watch the Moon landings. There is always music playing in the background when the astronauts are talking to Houston, but I was there when it happened the first time and there wasn't any music.

I just happened to do a Google Maps and noticed there are just 2 reviews for Astronomics and 1 of them is VERY negative... I think we should all log into Google Maps, look up Astronomics and set the record straight!

I can tell you the issue with the one bad review. A gentleman showed up in our store literally 30 minutes after a pipe burst and flooded our office. Our computers were down, there was a giant truck vacuuming out the water, floor fans were blowing everywhere and I was moving things to a dry spot on the other side of the store. We had a sign on the door explaining we were closed due to unforseen circumstances. The customer walked past the truck, stepped over the hoses, opened the door with the sign, and went by a sweating Mike carrying armfuls of equipment and documents. He then started to talk to Tom about products that we could not even come close to talking about due to our current situation. The customer became angry and left. We weren't given a chance to ask him to come back on Monday once everything was put back together. He then posted a website about his trip and has been posting on occasion when he can. I have wondered if the posting on Google has ever been an issue, I hope it hasn't but I am afraid people will look for us now that we have a showroom and read it.

My nephew and I came down for the nickel tour yesterday afternoon (7/21/12) and was most impressed. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product and many more visits.
