Hello everyone!

Just wanted to say hello and express my delight in finding this wonderful corner of the internet.

I hid in the shadows and read alot of posts before buying my new scope and eventually signing up. So much useful information and pleasant people here. Eventually settled on a NexStar 8SE and have enjoyed the few nights of use I have had.

Hoping the weather turns a little nicer soon so I can get some good nights in, but as anyone else in eastern Ontario knows it's been quite a cold snowy winter thus far.

Anyhow, hope to be talking to some of you people around the forum soon!

Hi Mikeinthedark, I'm sure everyone here will do their best to keep you happy with your new scope. Compared to my old 5i you've snagged quite a light bucket for yourself. You'll enjoy the views.

Very warm welcome mikeinthedark. I agree that this is a great corner of the webernet. So much wisdom to be had.

I too have a 8SE and I really like it. Even with dew shield and all it is easy to move around and use. I have not had good seeing since I got mine. So I have not been able to get a good focus on, well anything. (the two major bands on Jupiter but that's about it). But that is not the scopes fault.

Mike, I'd like to augment my initial greeting by borrowing a phrase used at another forum I occasionally hang out on:

"Welcome to Cloudy Nights. Sorry about your wallet."

Greetings to mikeinthedark! Ontario huh? So you've already spent hours bundled up like the Michelin Man with fingers aching in sub-zero temps out with your 8SE. Welcome, enjoy the fun!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! And yes have spent a few nights out bundled up in the cold. However, the -30°C nights are a little much. I stay inside those nights LOL

And to dpippel, you got that right! The old wallet has taken a beating the last month buying accessories, but is worth every penny.

Welcome Mike. Now that we have that out of the way. How much money do you have for us to spend for you? (our favorite passtime)

HAHAHAHA nice Stacy, and surprisingly the budget is pretty open. Trying to keep things reasonable and pick away at goodies and accessories over time.

Definitely looking at ccd cameras, possibly a beefier mount to toss my hat in the astrophotography ring. Eyepieces, and all the other fun things that make these nights even better!
