A zillion posts ago I saw one that gave the required size of the coaxial style plug required for the cable connecting the Jump Start Battery to the Scope. I would like to get that size?
Thanks a bunch
Fred

Fred, The SE scope (like all Celestron scopes) requires a 2.1mm x 5.5mm DC power plug. The 2.1mm number is the diameter of that little pin in the middle of the socket on the scope. Watch out for the 2.5mm x 5.5mm plugs (they look identical), they will usually cause intermittent problems.

The battery side is just a standard cigarette lighter style DC power plug.

If you buy a commercial cable for a battery make sure it's wired "tip positive". The center pin is the +12v side, the outside of the plug and socket is the ground or negative side.

Thanks Mark,
Wouldn't you know I have the 2.5 and you're right They do cause intermittent problems. It happened to me last night.

That other brand uses 2.5mm x 5.5mm, thereby proving that neither of them has a monopoly on using and clinging to a poor design.

Look at the pin and you'll notice it is in two halves.
If you can get something in the crack and gently pry them apart a bit you will get a better connection.

I think all of that style plug is wired tip positive. The negative is what is exposed to the outside. I believe they do this incase you have the other end attached to power and you let the barrel hit something grounded.

They sell those real cheap at Radioshack. I believe Stan sent me a link to that a few months ago.

Vixen has a center negative connector in that style, but it is rare.

Here is the RS cable...
