September 29th, 2012.

We have firm commitments from Celestron, TeleVue, Explore Scientific, and Lunt. I know we will have some others before too long, but we aren't sure about anything else. All I know we will have a good time and look forward to seeing everyone there.

I will be updating this thread as we find out more about the date. This will be a sort of test run for the viability of a central US show. Since Alan said he will make it, don't make me look bad in front of the head NEAF honcho, so show up and make Middle America look good.

I ran down to Astronomics today to pick up some mounting hardware I needed and had a chance to "scope out", shall we say, the new showroom. If you can imagine the folks from Overeaters Anonymous blundering into a combination pastry shop, barbecue joint and steakhouse, that's what that showroom is like to a confirmed astro-junkie. Good thing they went with hardwood floors instead of carpet, as there is much drooling to be done. Wall to wall to wall telescopes . . . and one of the first things you see is the Explore Scientific 152 refractor . . . what a beast!

The rest of the displays (eyepieces in particular) are still being assembled but it's well worth a visit if you are in striking distance. On my way out I asked how traffic has been and was told that Saturdays in particular are steady with browsers all day long, and that in-store sales have already jumped dramatically, which surely means more newcomers getting into the hobby, since most of us here on CN already have all the astro-gear we need . . . right?

On top of being some of the nicest folks in the business Astronomics is now officially the most spacious. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming . . .

Getting raffle prizes lined up and hoping to get a star party going that night with some sidewalk astronomy for the all the folks that come to downtown Norman for the evening.

Me and the wife just made plans to be there. We have to bring our little dog. Can we bring in a chihuahua if we hold her? We'll have to bring a scope and attend the Star Party as well. Hope you have the AT65EDQ in stock then. I just may have to bring one home with me ;)

Does that say the 19th? Thought it was the 29th
Surely not, the 19th is in the middle of the week on a Wednesday. I cant make it then and I'm sure a lot of others that will be making the drive wont either.

It says the 29th. The reflection from the street makes it hard to tell.
