Congratulations Tony!

I am curious to know if you were able to sleep like a baby after all this unpacking and assembly or full awake all night for the sake of a first light instead :)

This is a beautiful rig indeed.

it's true what they say!

the position of the RA and DEC motors, the position of the cables on the RA and DEC motors, and the logo on top of the RA motor....

all remind me of one particular mount. ;)

Jason, that cap tip may be the one idea that I was ever able to give you, yet I will keep taking your sage advice for many years to come.

Question, does the ACF have a corrector in the baffle tub, I do not think it does, just wanted to make sure? I am having a custom CAT Cooler made and they were asking. I looked into both ends of the scope and do not see one, but, maybe it is just really clear glass.

Thanks again for all the info you have provided on the LX850 over that last few months.

Sedat, slept like a baby, 'cuz I was exhausted. Have not wheeled it outside yet, will do that tonight for first light. Very excited...It will be clear with good transparency, seeing not so much, temperatures in the high 40s, I'll take it for first light...

Curse Brocken? I did slaughter a chicken before the scope arrived...(not really)

You deserved that sleep sir! After the tense and loong wait and all the assembly, it wouldn't be a good idea to stay awake last night.

I am sorry for the chicken but happy to hear you gonna have a nice clear sky tonite.

I can imagine you will go to your imaginary moon, jupiter etc all day long :)

Have fun!

Tony,
When the first photos of the LX800 prototype came out, there was much discussion on ap-ug about the many design similarities (in fact nearly identical) to the Mach1.

I know this was mentioned earlier, but I forgot the answer so I will ask again. Is this mount cast or machined? I find cast parts heavier and more prone to breaking IF IMPROPERLY HANDLED. They are durable enough for normal use, but are less resistant to abuse.

Hilmi, This mount is machined from aluminum and stainless steel. Quote from Meade site:

"German Equatorial Mount made from machined aluminum and stainless steel with large bearing surfaces and roller bearings in both axes for an extremely solid and stable platform."

They are not exaggerating, this mount is built like a tank...

I will conduct 'first light' tonight and report back.

Are you whining again, Len? ;)

You aren't even going to put it on the right mount; you'll probably have issues with that brand-X mount carrying it.

I'm making progress here; no shipping info on the mount but I did pick up some extra counterweights to use if it does ever arrive...

I didn't either -- I had to call about them. Both cables are mentioned in the manual (they were for the LX-800 too). the cables got to me about three days after asking for them.

Any new "news" on the LX850 performance, usage, etc?

I am on the proverbial waiting list also for the 14" LX850. However a dealer told me he was betting there would be still problems with the LX850 and not to count on getting one due to Meade's resulting demise.

So far I have seen folks get their LX850, but outside of the few beta user comments I have not heard a word about real use of the scope. How are the views visually? Everything working? How is the astrophotography going? How do you feel about the investment?

I am personally rooting for Meade and this telescope, and have read the user manual from cover to cover. It seems to match all my needs.

So how are things with the LX850?

Andrew, do a search on my posts, I have been discussing this for a few days now. My 14" scope is awesome, still learning.

Forgive me if you have already answerd these questions,
I did a search and couldn't find anything.
How is the mount performing?
Have you had a chance to take any pictures?

Thanks
Tim.
