Best one of the year. It ensured that I am renewing this weekend if I figure who to call to take the cc. If I can renew for two I will and I want to give one as a gift for a year.

Great article by Eden Orion. However as far as I know, the great Albert Einstein had at least two "personal" telescopes in his life:
In 1938, while at Princeton New Jersey, he used a 89 mm/ 150 mm brass refractor, which was donated to the Chabot Science Center in Oakland, California - USA. In 1954, his 200 mm/ 1600 mm Newtonian reflector (built by Zvi Gezari) was donated to Ben Shemen. In 1962 it went to the Williams Planetarium in Jerusalem and later to the Meyerhoff Youth center in Jerusalem - Israel.

Just got the issue of S&T so I haven't read the article yet. I shouldn't have been surprised but to be honest I didn't know Einstein even owned a telescope.

Between Mr. Oltion's extremely cool and simple finder featured in Gary's Telescope Workshop, the excellent-as-always Observing articles about seeking out Venus, Mercury and Pluto among other things
..and between the article on Black Holes, and on our latest 'Super Meteor,' there is a lot there to like! Many other gems tucked inside that I did not mention of course, no slight intended.

The only thing I take issue with is the advertisement forcing me to gaze at those gorgeous globes. I want them all, but must abstain. I have already blown my budget and then some! Such color-coded topographical goodness:nonono: (It's a good thing they had the Mars topo map on clearance to help assuage my suffering some. It's incredible in its own right, I'll post about it later)

Oh and Mr. PhilCo126 , that is some impressive sleuthing that you are doing there! Your scholarly research on the history of telescopes and modern astronomy is most thorough indeed, from what I have seen. I look forward to reading and seeing more of your investigations of our astronomical roots.. :waytogo:

The neat thing about the Einstein's telescope article and this overall issue was the tie between the builder of the telescope and the author/researcher of the cover article for that month's issue (i.e., the cover story's author was the granddaughter of the builder of Einstein's telescope). Nice coordination here that made this a timely issue.

Well done S&T!

What I found really interesting was that until a few years before Einstein's death he'd never looked thru a telescope.
