I've made this drawing a few months ago (december 2012) but did not post it yet, because I made this sketch for someone and did not want to spoil the surprise!

It is a pastel sketch of a 17 days old Moon, made before dawn on December 1st, 2012.

The telescope used was a 75mm f/15 Polarex/Unitron refractor at different magnifications. Because I wanted to keep the original drawing recognisable, I used an amici prism for an upright image.

The original sketch has a diameter of around 15". It's made entirely with one white pastel pencil on black paper.

I love your moon drawings, they are so striking and beautiful, and I am quite envious of the way you can represent features like crater rays with just a pencil stroke.
Could you tell us what paper this was drawn on?

Wow, I really had to look closely at this before I could tell it was a sketch! To bad you couldn't present it back in December. I'm certain it would have won the Imaging contest.

Oh what a beauty, Roel! You're a great artist. Respect for this masterpiece which must have taken many hours to produce.
