Hi - still thinking about which alt-az to get for my Orion ST120. Currently leaning toward the Vixen Porta II but with Oberwerk tall tripod. The Oberwerk would get the most use but need something lighter/shorter for airline travel mode and I'm thinking regular porta II tripod might be the answer there.

I'm having a hard time locating the minimum folded up length of the standard porta II tripod without the head. Also, wondering how long the legs are if I removed them from the hub? I've got 28 inches in my biggest suitcase to work with and 31 inches if stored diagonally. Anyone know where I can get specs or would someone be so kind as to measure theirs?

I'll be home in a couple of hours and would be glad to measure mine for you Tim, if no one else has the data before then.

Tim, it's just a hair under 31" (30 15/16") in total length and 6 5/8" at its widest point (at the junction where the legs join the head) when completely folded up. The legs would be 30 1/2" if removed from the head. Hope that helps. Looks like it might be a tight fit for your luggage.

I really appreciate you taking the time to measure. It's tight but looks like it would work (barely).

I re-measured. I have whole 33 inches diagonally so looks like I'm good to go. Thanks again dpippel.
