I see that there is now a version 3.08 of the Synscan firmware.
I have heard that it is only for goto Dobs, not the AZ mount.

Is this true, or is it worth updating my 3.07 AZ handset?

Well, what changes are listed as part of the update? You may find that none of the fixes or additional features apply to you, similarly to how one update to my CGEM machine code firmware was just to help it function in the southern hemisphere.
